DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY:
The History department of the Government Science College, Chatrapur has evolved significantly over the years. In 1970-71 year BA in history was opened in the college. In the year 1993 the PG course in history was opened. The UG and PG courses are affiliated to the Berhampur University. The history department has adapted the curriculum prepared by DHE for UG Course and the curriculum prepared by Berhampur University for PG course. The seats for UG Course is 62 where as for PG COURSE it is 32. The total strength of the faculty of the department is five. The history department places strong emphasis on student participation in academic activities that includes organising class seminars, departmental seminar, memorial lecture series, workshops and debates that encourages critical thinking and public speaking skills. The department is committed to engaging with local communities through various outreach programs which include organising lecture series for public and heritage walk that promotes historical awareness.
The department has expanded its courses offerings to include various periods and regions, from ancient to modern history and has incorporated inter disciplinary approaches. The history department stands as a testament to the enduring value of historical education and research, continually adapting to meet the needs of its students and broader academic community.
